Johnson & Johnson's subsidiary, DePuy Synthes, recalled its Radial Head Prosthesis System in December 2016 due to complaints of serious injuries and complications in patients who received the defective elbow implant.
The official recall states that the defective elbow implant's radial stem may loosen at the stem bone interface, which can cause serious pain, soft tissue damage, or possibly even fractures.
Along with a Class 2 recall by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, DePuy decided to pull the product from the market due to the risk of serious injuries.
According to the official recall released by DePuy Synthes, the potential impacts of the radial stem becoming loose include:
- Device looseing
- Osteolysis (loss of bone tissue)
- Poor joint mechanics
- Severe pain
- Post-operative bone fracture
- Soft tissue irritation
- Soft tissue damage
Patients with these defective DePuy elbow implants may also require revisions surgeries in order to correct the issues that may arise.
If you have had a DePuy Synthes Radial Head Prosthesis System implanted anytime since December 2013 and have needed revision surgery for that elbow joint replacement, you may be eligible for a defective medical device lawsuit.
Faraci Lange is currently pursuing defective DePuy Elbow Implant cases on behalf of patients who suffered serious injuries due to the failure of the Synthes Radial Head Prosthesis System.
